Disney’s presentation at the 2020 virtual IAAPA expo had plenty of exciting announcements for Walt Disney World fans, including first looks at the track for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the special guestrooms aboard the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel. However, beyond Walt Disney World’s gates, there are some other exciting projects in the works at Disney Parks!
Over at Shanghai Disneyland, Disney shared that this park’s upcoming Zootopia-themed expansion is coming along quickly, with construction on both the land and featured dark ride hitting several important milestones since it began last year. You can check out a photo of the current progress on this land below:
Zootopia will be Shanghai Disneyland’s first major expansion, and will have a new dark ride attraction as its centerpiece. This as-yet unnamed ride will seamlessly blend Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring the world of this fan-favorite movie to life, along with iconic characters like Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps. In addition to the attraction, this immersive new land will feature entertainment, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings inspired by the world of Zootopia.
No timeline for this project has been announced just yet but with construction moving forward so quickly we’d guess we’re looking at a 2022 or 2023 opening for this upcoming eighth land at Shanghai Disneyland.
