Chessington World of Adventures and Sony Pictures announced in August 2022 that they would open ‘World of Jumanji’ in Spring 2023. Chessington World of Adventures is located in Surrey and is one of the four largest Merlin theme parks in the UK.
The World of Jumanji is now open at Chessington World of Adventures. The world’s first Jumanji themed land officially opened on 15th May. The $20.5 million, world’s first Jumaji land is set to bring to life some of the exciting adventures from the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams.
It is important to note that for the two flat rides; Ostrich Stampede and Mamba Strike can be accessed via a normal standby line. However, the new B&M Wing Coaster, Mandrill Mayhem which gives Chessington World of Adventures its first inversion can only be accessed through Virtual Queueing, meaning you need to make a reservation in order to ride.
The virtual queue system is used by Disney for any new attraction to reduce the physical queue time. This is the first time it has been done by Merlin Entertainments at Chessington World of Adventures.
Guests wanting to ride Mandrill Mayhem can book a FREE slot using their smartphone using the Reserve & Ride website from 9:45AM each day. You need to create an account in order to reserve a virtual queue slot. The slots are first come, first served and will become unavailable when full so best to try to get one as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
A number of reviews have appeared online of the new World of Jumanji and if you want to see what Chessington World of Adventures has in store, check out the full review of the area in the video embedded below from Theme Park Worldwide. From what can be seen so far it certainly looks like the headlining attraction, Mandrill Mayhem should not to be missed on your next visit to the park.
Here is the concept art that was released by Chessington World of Adventures of all three of the attractions in ‘World of Jumanji’. It is interesting to now be able to compare these with the real thing!
Mandrill Mayhem is the B&M Wing Coaster and the world’s only Jumanji roller coaster featuring an inversion which is the first for Chessington World of Adventures. It gives guests great views of the entire land all seen from the long arms of the Mandrill.
Ostrich Stampede and Mamba Strike are the two flat rides in ‘World of Jumanji’ which should be enjoyed by younger guests.
The jungle styled entrance portal is covered in overgrowth and a 55-foot-tall Jaguar Shrine structure awaiting the Jaguarโs Eye jewel that will lift the curse. There is also a Jungle Maze for guests to try to navigate, be warned some paths are trickier than others!
The advertising focuses on bravery. “A FANTASTICAL LAND IS SOON TO ARRIVE. YOU’LL NEED TO BE BRAVE IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE.”
Chessington World of Adventures also has a zoo and is primarily aimed at families and children aged up to 15, with majority of teenagers and young adults opting to visit nearby Thorpe Park which is filled with hard hitting roller coasters such as Nemesis Inferno, Stealth, SAW – The Ride and The Swarm. Bringing Jumanji to Chessington World of Adventures seems like a very sensible decision for Merlin and should be the perfect fit for the park.
