When many of us think of Halloween, the 1978 classic of the same name always comes to mind, largely because it has become so synonymous with the season (and not to mention the fact that it requires mandatory viewing). The film’s tagline reads “The Night He Came Home”, referring of course to the “bogeyman” Michael Myers. But later this year, he won’t be going home – he’ll be making his way to Universal Studios Orlando!
Yes, Michael Myers will be making an appearance at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights 31, but he will be just one of many tricks and treats lurking in the shadows at the two-month-long event. Haunted houses, scare zones, live shows, and attractions with spooky makeovers? Check, check, check, and check! Here’s everything you need to know about Halloween Horror Nights 31 at Universal Studios…
Admission & Dates
Halloween Horror Nights 31 is a separately ticketed event. A single ticket is on sale from $73.99 (exc. tax), and there’s also the Halloween Horror Nights Hotel & Ticket Package and event add-ons Express Pass, R.I.P. Tour (very clever), Private R.I.P. Tour and Behind The Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour. A ticket can only be purchased online, and prices may vary by date. Check the official Universal Orlando website for more details.
Halloween Horror Nights 31 will run on select nights from September 2 to October 31, starting at 6:30pm (closing times vary). The official website states that the event will occur “rain or shine”, so you won’t be eligible for returns, refunds, or date exchanges in the event of inclement weather (you know, spooky thunderstorms and such). You should also note that entertainment, attractions and other experiences are subject to availability.
Haunted Houses
There will be 10 Haunted Houses available throughout Halloween Horror Nights 31. These will include the classic Universal Monsters: Legends Collide, The Horrors of Blumhouse – the studio behind horror movies such as The Conjuring (2013) and Halloween Ends (coming October 2022), and Halloween itself, which will allow guests to explore a darkly lit Haddonfield house where “The Shape” lurks in the shadows…
According the latest Speculation Map V3.0 recently released by Horror Night Nightmares, the Haunted Houses are now listed as:
Please note that this is purely speculative
- Witch
- The Evil Dead
- Halloween CONFIRMED
- El Chupacabra
- Dead Man’s Wharf
- The Horrors of Blumhouse The Black Phone & Freaky CONFIRMED
- Bug House
- Seeds of Extinction 2
- Universal Monsters Legends Collide CONFIRMED
- The Weekend CONFIRMED
Scare Zones
There will also be five Sinister Scare Zones at the event, so there’s really no escaping the nightmarish characters and experiences at Halloween Horror Nights 31. Unfortunately, no details on these events have been revealed as yet, but then it wouldn’t be a trick or a treat if you new what to expect, would it? Just know that they’ll probably be just as terrifying as the Haunted Houses (maybe even more so).
The latest Speculation Map V3.0 details the Scare Zones as follows:
Again, please note this is currently speculative
- Traditional Halloween
- Candy Mutants
- Treaks and Foons
- Scarecrow
- Vampires
Rides, Attractions & Live Shows
Naturally, certain rides and attractions – mainly those of the most thrilling variety – will be available “after dark” at Halloween Horror Nights 31, some of which will even be given a spooky makeover. There will also be two “Outrageous” Live Shows available, one of which is speculated to be called Nightmare Fuel. Details are slim at present, so do keep an eye on the official Universal Studios Orlando website as we get closer to the event.
Themed Food, Drinks & Merchandise
It isn’t a resort-wide celebration without there being themed foods, drinks and merchandise. After all, any self-respecting lover of Halloween would do the same thing at home, so you can expect a place like Universal Studios Orlando to do the same. Select dining locations will offer plenty of tricks, while retail outlets will offer some spooktacular treats. In fact, some lines are already available to purchase online.
Universal Orlando Resort App
There might not be much you can do to protect yourself against all the ghosts and ghouls at Halloween Horror Nights 31 once you’re trapped inside the event, but you can still arrive prepared with the official Universal Orlando Resort App. You can download the app for free and use it to purchase event tickets, check out wait times, view interactive maps, and much more (please note that it doesn’t project ghost-catching streams).
