Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Walt Disney World halted all ticket sales earlier this year while they were putting together a reopening plan. However, now that we’re only a few days away from the public reopening of the theme parks, Walt Disney World has announced that as of today, theme park tickets are back on sale for the rest of 2020. However, there are some new restrictions and things guests should probably know before breaking out their credit cards…
1. Add-ons are still unavailable
Because Walt Disney World theme parks are still reopening with a lot of restrictions in place, popular add-ons such as park hopper, Minnie Vans airport shuttle service, and the Disney Dining Plan are not available at this time. In addition, all paid FastPass+ add-ons will not be available as FastPass+ service is suspended until further notice.
2. You can purchase standalone tickets or packages with tickets
If you are looking to purchase more than just theme park tickets, starting today you can also begin purchasing a new 2020 vacation package, which will allow guests to book tickets for 2 to 7 days in length alongside their hotel stays. And speaking of hotel stays, though most Walt Disney World hotels are open right now, the following will be reopening later this year on the following dates:
- July 29 – Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Aug. 12 – Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Aug. 24 – Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
- Sept. 21 – Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
- Oct. 1 – Disney’s BoardWalk Resort
- Oct. 14 – Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Guests are responsible for checking park pass availability BEFORE purchasing their tickets
In order to gain entrance to a Walt Disney World theme park, all guests, no matter whether they are staying on-site or somewhere else, will need valid admission tickets as well as an arrival reservation time. Reservations are now available through My Disney Experience and at DisneyWorld.com/DisneyParkPass , but depending on your type of admission, you’ll have to check the availability calendar before making your purchase, as even if you book a package with theme park tickets over a certain period, if the theme parks are not available on your requested dates, you will not be able to enter and tickets will not be refunded.
Though there have been some criticisms levied at Walt Disney World for opening while COVID-19 cases are spiking in Florida, it looks like the resort is ready to welcome guests back as soon as possible, and are looking to ensure that all guests who want to visit Walt Disney World in 2020 are able to.
As always, while this situation is evolving, all travelers should check out the CDC’s official site here, which has information on the virus and how to prevent its spread.
