Hot on the heels of the opening of Minions Land this week at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Orlando Resort has announced that another all-new themed land at the same park will be opening in 2024: DreamWorks Land.
This new area is coming together quickly, and now we finally know a little bit about what we can expect when it opens next year!
Shrek is coming back to Universal Studios Florida with a new, kid-focused attraction
When Shrek 4-D closed last year, fans of the two-decade old franchise were a little disappointed to see the green ogre vacate his prime position at the front of Universal Studios Florida. However, it looks like this fan-favorite character won’t be gone for long! Universal has confirmed that Shrek will appear in this new area, and rumors have hinted that the former Fievel’s Playland area is currently being transformed into Shrek’s Swamp, allowing a whole new generation of fans to experience the world of this beloved character in a whole new way.
Newer DreamWorks characters from “Trolls,” “Kung-Fu Panda” and more will be represented as well, with their own attractions, including a family roller coaster
In addition to Shrek, DreamWorks Land will also include characters and attractions based on other DreamWorks IP, including “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” “Trolls,” and “Kung-Fu Panda.”
Though no official announcement has been made about what specific attractions will be tied to these franchises, the concept art above seems to show a Trolls-themed kiddie roller coaster in the distance, which seemingly replaces the Woody Woodpecker Nuthouse Coaster that used to be in this area.
In addition to the playground and roller coaster attractions, there will be a character meet and greet areas in this land where guests can meet a rotating cast of familiar faces from DreamWorks films as well as new characters from upcoming movies, similar to the former Dreamworks Destination attraction. In the concept art above you can see Shrek and Donkey, but there will undoubtedly be more character meet and greets in this land as well.
No How to Train Your Dragon here, but stay tuned for Epic Universe news
Though there will be plenty of DreamWorks properties represented inside this new land, one franchise that guests might be surprised not to see is How to Train Your Dragon. However, this is purposeful, as this iconic franchise is actually getting its own immersive land at Epic Universe, complete with its own roller coaster, a collection of flat rides and more. You can read about all the rumored attractions coming to this new land here.
Though we’ve got about a year before DreamWorks Land opens, it looks like this new kid-friendly area will be a great place for DreamWorks fans young and old to step into their favorite DreamWorks worlds and meet some iconic characters as well. Though Universal hasn’t officially confirmed anything officially beyond the name of the land and some of the franchises that will be represented within it, we’d bet that more information will be released in the next few months, especially as work continues behind construction walls at Universal Studios Florida.
