Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, has got to be one of the most anticipated lands to be built anywhere in recent years. It is promised to feature a new “realistic” Mario Kart ride, a Yoshi omnimover dark ride attraction that will be a hybrid indoor/outdoor attraction, and loads of interactive experiences that make guests feel like they are inside their favorite Nintendo games.
Earlier in August, a massive Super Nintendo World Leak showed off rides, theming and more. We learned that the official name of the MarioKart ride will be to MarioKart Koopa’s Challenge which is described as “Featuring multiple tracks as well as your favorite levels and characters from Mario Kart, you’ve never experienced fun like this before!”.
MarioKart Koopa’s Challenge is said to have a 5 minute ride time with 4 riders per car and each person will have their own steering wheel. The height restriction will be 42 inches if accompanied by an adult and 48 inches if riding by yourself.
When you get on Yoshi’s Adventure ride you can expect to “Get on Yoshi’s back, follow Captain Kinopio and set off on a treasure hunt adventure, look at the mushroom kingdom from Mount Beanpole and have fun!”
We also found out that Super Nintendo World will also feature shops and a restaurant, Bowser’s Castle and Peach’s Castle.
In addition to the new rides, shops and restaurants, this new land at Universal Studios Japan is promised to be one of the first fully interactive areas inside any theme park, ever. When guests enter Super Nintendo World, they will be given special Mario magnetic wristbands that will keep track of their score in interactive games around the park. These special bands (which guests can keep) will then sync back to a guest’s Nintendo home console so that they can continue their Super Nintendo World adventure from home.
Amazing Footage of Super Nintendo World
Universal Studios Japan shared some great video footage of what Super Nintendo World currently looks like and what guests are in store for when it finally opens:
It is fantastic news to hear that this land is basically complete and was originally planned to debut this summer to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Like in the case of so many other planned 2020 attractions, Universal Studios Japan has decided to postpone the opening indefinitely over concerns that its popularity could cause a spike in COVID-19 cases in the area.
Universal Studios Japan will be the first Universal theme park to host Super Nintendo World. Universal then had plans for expansions in Hollywood, Orlando and Singapore, although with the current COVID-19 pandemic, we will have to wait to see when and if these come to fruition.
