It is official, physical interaction during character meet-and-greets is now back at Universal Orlando Resort. It has been a long two years since the theme park closures back in March 2020 when all character meet-and-greets which involved close contact were cancelled due to COVID-19 physical distancing measures.
Universal has now brought back physical interaction as part of certain meet-and-greets with guests able to hug, high-five, and get autographs from characters meeting at Marvel Super Hero Island, KidsZone. This is brilliant news for the many fans that have missed this important part of their theme park visit.
We expect further character meet-and-greets with physical interactions to return to Universal Orlando Resort in the coming weeks. When you think character meet-and-greets, however, it is probably Walt Disney World that first springs to mind rather than Universal Orlando Resort.
We all know of the rivalry there is between Disney and Universal and it is therefore interesting that just over a week after Disney announced that character meet-and-greets are returning to Walt Disney World on April 18, 2022 that Universal Orlando Resort has reintroduced them. I suppose although this may be interesting to some, is it to be expected as we return to a more normal world where we learn to ‘Live with COVID’.
It is certainly good news for guests of for both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World that pre-pandemic character meet-and-greets are returning to the parks.
