Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is heavily under construction at EPCOT with all of this work on this upcoming attraction in the World Nature section of the park hidden behind walls. However, Zach Riddley recently took several photos from inside this attraction and posted them on Instagram, highlighting not only progress on the overall attraction behind the construction walls, but also the artistry that goes into designing the rockwork that will be found throughout when the attraction is finished.
According to the post, the rocks inside the attraction are being designed with a range of textures that are inspired by real-world formations. Small details and variations in the rockwork should make it impossible to distinguish from the real thing when it is ready for guests to experience.
Here are some highlights:
When it opens, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana will be the first-ever attraction based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Moana. It will be a walk-through experience that will immerse guests in a lush environment where the global cycle of water will be brought to life as guests play and interact with water as it travels from our skies to our oceans and back again. The spaces and experiences inside this attraction are inspired by Moana’s friendship with water and her devotion to protecting nature around her.
Though work seems to be progressing quickly on this upcoming walk-through experience, it looks like there is still a lot more work to be done on this interactive attraction and we are not expecting an opening date until sometime in 2023. Hopefully, more information will be revealed at the upcoming D23 Expo, which will kick off Friday, September 9, and should feature plenty of fun and exciting Disney Parks announcements.
