Universal Studios Japan has just announced that the opening of Super Nintendo World, originally planned for February 4, will be postponed due to the State of Emergency which has been declared in Osaka Prefecture.
Universal released a statement today saying, “We sincerely apologize to all the guests and stakeholders who were looking forward to the opening”.
Due to the Japanese Government understandably trying to avoid a surge in COVID-19 cases it has expanded its state of emergency to include Osaka. Universal confirmed in their statement that, “The opening date will be decided and announced after the “state of emergency” is lifted.”
Visitor numbers are going to be limited at Universal Studios Japan between the dates of January 17 – February 7 to support the efforts of the government to try to keep COVID-19 cases under control.
Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan is one of the most highly anticipated lands to have been created. It will boast the headlining attraction Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge as well as Yoshi’s Adventure dark ride. Guests will be able to use special Power Up Bands (sold separately) to complete special quests and key challenges in the area collecting virtual keys and stamps with other Guests in real-time using their whole body.
