The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom interactive card game experience at the Magic Kingdom will close permanently on Sunday, January 24, 2021 after eight years in operation. Disney has announced that this closure is due to decreased demand for this experience.
This game debuted in 2012 and allowed guests to pick up free magic card packs at the Main Street Firehouse to join Merlin to battle Disney villains like Cruella, Scar, Jafar, Maleficent, Ursula, Yzma, Ratcliffe and Dr. Facilier via magic portals in an effort to track down 4 enchanted crystal shards, which are hidden throughout the park. The game had different difficulty levels that could be unlocked by playing and re-playing the game, as well as special combo attacks that could be unlocked with multiple cards.
In addition to the stock cards that were given for free, there were premium “lightning” cards that were available for purchase, and limited event cards were also given out during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party every year.
After the closure of this experience the Main Street Firehouse will also be closed for a brief amount of time to be refurbished, though guests wishing to drop off at firehouse patch can still do so with Cast Members outside.
