Six Flags Great Adventure will officially open for the 2021 season on March 27. Tickets and reservations will be available through the Six Flags website. This is exciting news for guests hoping to visit this year.
With the opening date now confirmed, all eyes are on when The World’s Tallest, Fastest and Longest Single Rail Coaster, Jersey Devil Coaster, will open. Six Flags Great Adventure has confirmed that this much anticipated coaster will debut in 2021 and work on its construction has been progressing well.
The Jersey Devil Coaster reaches speeds of 58mph as riders sit with their legs straddling either side of the monorail track, one person to a row, and enjoy a host of loops and inversions including a raven dive and overbank cutback whilst travelling along 3000 feet of track after climbing the 130 foot lift hill and descending a 87 degree drop.
Groundbreaking for The Jersey Devil Coaster happened on November 13, 2019 with the first piece of steel put in place on March 2, 2020. This coaster was originally slated for 2020 but due to COVID-19 had to be postponed. The official trailer for this coaster is embedded below:
For anyone who has any interest in coaster construction or the Jersey Devil Coaster, the latest construction video update on Six Flags Great Adventure official Jersey Devil Coaster page goes behind the scenes and shows a detailed look at the developments made to The Jersey Devil Coaster since the start of 2021. It shows the installation of the lift hill and first drop. It took crews two days to put four pieces of lift hill track in place including T- bars and safety netting.
Towards the end of January, saddles were then installed in preparation for the first drop which is set at 87 degrees just 3 degrees shy of vertical) and crews assembled the 42 ft long Head and Idler Beam on the ground ready to be installed at top of the lift hill.
On January 22 crews began the ‘topping off’ ceremony with the final piece of lift hill track being carefully craned into place on Monday January 25 bearing the American flag, a tradition which happens with all of Six Flags coasters. The Jersey Devil Coaster was officially topped off at 3:15pm.
Work is now being done on the loading station and maintenance building with mechanical and electrical components being installed. The video shows great views of the red trains with the menacing devil face on the front.
