Report: Domestic Travel Ban on Florida Being Discussed by Government Officials

The Miami Herald is reporting that the Biden administration is considering imposing domestic travel restrictions on certain states, including on Florida, as several high-profile COVID-19 mutations could reverse progress on the pandemic as vaccine rollout continues across the country. According to a source within President Biden’s administration:

“There are active conversations about what could help mitigate spread here, but we have to follow the data and what’s going to work. We did this with South Africa, we did this with Brazil, because we got clear guidance. But we’re having conversations about anything that would help mitigate spread,” the official said, referring to discussions about new travel restrictions that could target the spread of the U.K. mutation in Florida.

Though such a measure probably wouldn’t cause a full theme park closure in the state like what we saw last spring, the effects of a ban would undoubtedly affect guest volume, which would likely in turn cause some kind of reduced operations while the ban is in place at Walt Disney World, SeaWorld Orlando, Universal Orlando Resort, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and all the other theme parks that call Florida home.

As of right now such a measure has not officially been set in place, and there are some questions about the legality of banning travel in an entire state but it seems like high level officials are at least discussing the possibility.
