Pair of New Refurbishments Announced for Magic Kingdom

Though we’ve all got our eyes on the seemingly endless Peoplemover refurbishment happening now at the Magic Kingdom, Disney has confirmed two additional refurbishments that will be happening at the park this spring.

First up is the Mad Tea Party ride, which will close for a little over a week later this month on February 22, before reopening to guests on March 5, 2021. Shortly after that, the Swiss Family Treehouse will close on March 12 for nearly two weeks, before reopening on March 26, 2021. Both of these refurbishments are expected to be for general maintenance, as we don’t think any major changes for either of these Magic Kingdom mainstays are in the works right now.

In addition to these new refurbishments and the ongoing Peoplemover saga, the Hall of Presidents officially closed for refurbishment last month while Disney works on adding President Biden to the lineup, hopefully in time for the fall. The Walt Disney World Railroad is also still under refurbishment due to the ongoing construction of the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction, and is not expected to reopen any time soon as work on this attraction isn’t expected to be complete until next year. Though a lot of major projects have been stalled or delayed due to the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic, it looks like Disney is still moving ahead with regular refurbishments and maintenance projects, which is definitely a good sign as we hopefully move to a big projected recovery for the theme park industry in 2022.
