It was announced back in August 2022 that Dollywood will be opening its new roller coaster, Big Bear Mountain, in Spring 2023. Big Bear Mountain was opened May 12 by none other than Dolly Parton herself. This is a family-friendly coaster with a minimum height restriction of 39 inches. It takes the title of being Dollywood’s longest coaster yet, sprawling along the backside of Wildwood Grove!
This new attraction is a multi-launch coaster, manufactured by Vekoma and is located in Wildwood Grove. It is described as “an unforgettable family-friendly expedition in search of the Big Bear. Circling Wildwood Grove for nearly two minutes on 3,990 ft. of track, this gigantic coaster is a first of its kind at Dollywood with onboard audio, including music and announcements from Ned Oakley himself.” Take a look at this POV and off-ride footage in the video posted below by Sharp Productions.
As you can see, the new Big Bear Mountain coaster covers a massive area. In total the attraction will take over a 6 acre area of Wildwood Grove. The coaster is quite low to the ground, hitting a top speed of 48mph. It includes three launches, tunnels, carousel turns and many air-time hills.
From initial reviews, it sure looks to be a very fun ride and a great addition to Dollywood’s line up.
Big Bear Mountain is located within the newly expanded Wildwood Grove area of Dollywood just behind the hollow log where it joins eleven other attractions in this family friendly area which is surrounded by the backdrop of the Smoky Mountains.
