TechCrunch has released a new piece diving deep into Disney Imagineering’s latest feat: a walking, talking bipedal robotics platform called Project Kiwi. This type of robotics innovation was shown off earlier this year during an investor’s call and includes a lifelike Baby Groot character that walks, talks, and blinks in a smooth and seamless way. You can check it out in the video below:
Right now Disney has said that they do not have immediate plans to put this technology to use in the theme parks, but that could change in the near future as next generation attractions are developed for the future of Disney Parks. Already we’ve seen the use of a “flying” Spider-Man animatronic developed for Avengers Campus, and its reasonable to think that as this technology becomes more advanced, we might see more creatures come to life via this new technology very soon.
Right now, Disney has several high profile projects in the works, including the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction at EPCOT, which is expected to be one of the most advanced attractions Disney has developed to date. You can read more about what Disney has planned for the next few years here.
What do you think about this exciting new technology? Would you like to see these free-roaming next generation animatronics used in theme park attractions, or potentially as walk-around characters in the future?
