Though Super Nintendo World was supposed to open earlier this year at Universal Studios Japan like so many other theme park projects around the world, this new land has been delayed significantly due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. However, the much anticipated expansion now has an official opening window set for Spring 2021! In addition, Universal Studios Japan confirmed that visitors to the park will be able to get a little bit of Nintendo fun in the meantime as the Mario Cafe and merchandise store will open in the Hollywood area of the park on October 16th! You can check out some brand new concept art below:
Universal Orlando Resort fans may recognize familiar facades for “Schwab’s Pharmacy” and “The Darkroom” but behind these exteriors at Universal Studios Japan Nintendo fans will find a Mario-themed cafe and shop, which will welcome their first guests next week on October 16th. As you can see the exteriors of the shops have been altered somewhat to feature icons and colors associated with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach.
Once inside the cafe, guests will find plenty of Mario theming, with mushrooms, ? Blocks, pirahna plants, shells and pipes. As you might expect, guests will be able to enjoy several Mario-themed treats and drinks in this location.
Right next to the cafe guests will find a Nintendo-themed store which will sell Mario-themed merchandise, much of it exclusive to Universal Studios Japan. You can check out a sneak peek of the interior of this store below:
Though plans for Super Nintendo World at Universal Orlando Resort as part of Universal’s Epic Universal are currently on hold indefinitely it looks like construction on the west coast version of this land has kicked off at Universal Studios Hollywood, as first-look images of the Nintendo-themed expansion have surfaced on Twitter.
Like its counterpart in Japan, Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood will feature rides based on Yoshi’s Adventure and Mario Kart, plus interactive elements, shops and a restaurant. No release date information has been released yet, but with this project finally ramping up on the West Coast, hopefully we’ll learn more soon about the second version of this exciting new land!
