Mobile Checkout Now Testing at Disney Parks

Disney Parks are now testing a new app-based mobile checkout system that allows guests to scan merchandise they pick up and pay for it instantly via their phone instead of standing in line for a register. This feature is now in testing and uses the Disneyland app for Disneyland Resort and the My Disney Experience app for Walt Disney World Resort, and seems to be very user friendly for guests who are comfortable using these apps already.

Guests using these apps can simply press the + button to see the “Shop in Store” option, which says “now testing”, and then after reading the instructions and selecting a store, can then pick up a designated clear mobile checkout shopping bag to put your purchases in. Once you have added all of the items that you want to buy to your virtual purchase list (and your physical shopping bag) you simply can then click “Check Out” and go through the payment steps to complete your purchase. Annual Passholders who use this feature will see their discounts automatically applied during this step.

Once payment is confirmed a special QR code will be displayed to show to a Cast Member near the exit so they can confirm your payment. Guests can also tap on “Purchase History” near the top of the screen view receipts for purchased items at any time.

Right now this feature is only available at Mouse Gear in EPCOT and World of Disney at the Disneyland Resort, but it is expected to roll out to World of Disney at Disney Springs soon. And while that may not be a very big list right now, if these initial tests are successful, we’d guess Disney will roll out this feature quickly to other merchandise locations in an effort to help promote physical distancing in its shops during the busy holiday season.
