UPDATE June 8 – As of today, Genie+ can no longer be purchased prior to the day of your Walt Disney World visit. Those guests wanting to purchase Genie+ Lightning Lane and/or Individual Lightning Lane can now only do so on the day of their visit through My Disney Experience App. The first Genie+ Lightning Lane can be booked from 7:00AM onwards. This change is only in place at Walt Disney World.
May 19 – It is no secret that Genie+ has been a controversial system since it debuted back in October 2021. We have been expecting Disney to do something to try to solve the many problems it faces with Genie+ and now it has been announced that as of June 8, Disney Genie+ will no longer be available to purchase before the day of your visit.
Reporter Scott Gustin posted this tweet yesterday and it has left many Disney fans even more confused and bewildered than they were before.
NEW: Starting June 8, Disney Genie+ will no longer be offered as a pre-arrival ticket add-on at Walt Disney World for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023.

So, to summarise, from June 8, guests will no longer be able to purchase Genie+ when they buy their Walt Disney World or Disneyland ticket, you will only be able to purchase it on the day of your visit.
We think the theory behind this is that Disney will then be able to manage how many Genie+ they sell which should ensure the system doesn’t get overloaded with guests becoming disappointed when slots for popular attractions quickly sell out and are no longer available.
Guests already have to go onto the My Disney Experience App to book their first attraction at 7:00AM for Walt Disney World resort guests or when the park opens for all other guests so it shouldn’t make a huge difference to purchase the ticket first before then making your selection. However, there is no guarentee you are going to be able to purchase Genie+ with this new strategy which adds another stress to the start of the day.
There have been mixed reviews of this major change to Genie+ which will come into effect on June 8 with some guests commenting on how exhausting and confusing it is to be able to keep up with all the changes, whilst others are feeling optimistic that Genie+ won’t be flooded by too many people making the experience better for guests who do manage to secure Genie+ on the day of their visit.
We somehow feel there may be more changes to come to Genie+ in the near future and we will keep you up to date with these on our news and Facebook pages. Let us know your thoughts by leaving us a comment below.
