Guests can now use Disney’s MagicMobile service, which was announced earlier this month, to enter the theme parks, check in for reservations, link PhotoPass reservations and more. In order to use Magic Mobile, guests will need to set up their pass in the My Disney Experience App (along with all passes for guests whose accounts they manage), and then add their pass(es) to their Apple Wallet.
Once it has been added to the Apple Wallet, users can enable the “Express Pass” feature, which allows guests to use their iPhone or Apple Watch by simply tapping it at a park entry location without the need to unlock their phone, recreating the simplicity of using a single-tap MagicBand. The only catch is that this feature is only available for a primary account, so if you are managing accounts for children or other party members, you will need to open the app, select the user, and then scan in.
Though Disney has stressed that MagicBands are still being produced (with new colors and styles on the way) and still can be used instead of MagicMobile or alongside it, it looks increasingly like the focus will be on developing smartphone-linked technology, especially as mobile options like digital key and mobile order have proved to be very popular with guests.
Right now MagicMobile is available for all iPhone (and Apple Watch) users, and an Android roll out date is expected to be announced in the near future. Will you be checking out this new option the next time you visit Walt Disney World?
