The PLAY! Pavilion for EPCOT was first announced at the D23 Expo in 2021 and was originally designed to house character meet and greets, interactive experiences, and more. Little was then said by Disney regarding this project until a major permit was filed in July 2022. However, at the beginning of September there was a rumor circulated that “the pavilion has either been cancelled or severely scaled down.”
All eyes were then on D23 in September 2022 for clarification on the fate of PLAY! Pavilion. Well, when D23 came and went and there had been no mention of the PLAY! Pavilion, many Disney fans speculated that it was indeed the end of this project for good. Then, on October 1, at the beginning of the EPCOT 40 celebrations, PLAY! Pavilion appeared on the commemorative map giving fans hope that perhaps this project still had a chance of happening after all.
Well, very recently on January 13, on the map for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts presented by AT&T it is clear that PLAY! Pavilion has been deleted from the map all together. We inevitably assumed that this was definitely and completely the end for this project and Disney will just continue to ignore its ever existence in the first place.
However, in a recent post by reporter Scott Gustin he says, “Walt Disney World is re-evaluating the original concept that was planned and announced for the PLAY! Pavilion at EPCOT.” I would expect more to be shared at a later date.”
