UPDATE August 29 – It certainly seems like a pain stakingly slow wait for TRON Lightcycle / Run to open at the Magic Kingdom but there has been another milestone hit this week when humans have been spotted on the roller coaster. We assume these are members of the development team which is a key stage on the journey to completion.
Blog Mickey has posted a video of this human testing which is embedded below and we will update you on the next milestone at TRON Lightcycle / Run as soon as it is reached. There still appears to be a lot of theming work to be done and we are now expecting an opening at some point in 2023.
UPDATE June 15 – Walt Disney Imagineering has now released a number of photos on their Instagram page of the testing which is being done on the canopy illuminations. The post also reveals that the canopy which serves as the Upload Conduit to the Grid, will be where guests will race beneath at the start of their adventure. In all 1,200 fixtures will be programmed across the surface. Work is said to continue in the coming months on bringing TRON Lightcycle / Run to life with all the planned features.
We had hoped that TRON Lightcycle / Run would open at some point in 2022 although it sounds like from this post, as they are talking about the coming months, of which they are only just over 6 and a half left of 2022, it is looking more and more likely that we won’t get a chance to ride beneath the Upload Conduit to the Grid until 2023. We will of course keep you posted regarding the opening date of this very long awaited attraction as soon as it is announced. Check out the photos in the Instagram post which is embedded below.
UPDATE June 10 – There still appears to be a lot of work to do on TRON Lightcycle / Run before we will get an annoucement regarding its opening but there have been reports online this week that testing has now begun on the illumination of the iconic canopy. This progress is slowly getting us nearer to an opening which we were hopeful may happen at some point later this year but is now looking more likely to happen in 2023.
The illumination appears to primarily be of the outlines of the hexagonal shapes on the canopy which is sure going to make for an impressive sight. We will continue to update you on the progress being made on TRON Lightcycle / Run on our news and Facebook page. UPDATE May 12 – TRON Lightcycle / Run is certainly a hot topic at the moment and we have just heard that Disney has released a video showing the first full-speed launch. The video is embedded below and certainly shows this highly anticipated attraction is making good progress.
As you can see from the video we are only seeing the launch and the outside section of the rollercoaster. Majority of the action takes place in the show building. We still don’t have a confirmed opening date for TRON Lightcycle / Run but we are hoping it will be open at some point in 2022. We will keep you posted on our news and Facebook page as soon as an opening date is announced.
March 9 – We are all eagerly awaiting news of when the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run will open at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Originally slated to open in 2021, Disney fans are certainly having to wait patiently for news.
This week we have been treated to a video which has been uploaded to Instagram from Assistant Construction Manager, Angela Wu, showing us how things currently look inside the TRON Lightcycle / Run building at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
From the video you can see the sheer scale of the building which houses the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run coaster, where you will board your Lightcycle and head off into the grid on a thrilling roller coaster ride.
Wu talks about the current progress of installing the canopy ETFE which is explained as being “a plastic polymer that gets blown up with air”. It has a “unique graphic pattern which you will be able to see when you experience the attraction at night”.
It certainly looks impressive even in its current state so we are sure it will blow guests away when it is finally complete. However, from the video, an opening date appears to be quite a long way off as it looks like a lot of work still needs to be done. The video is embedded below:
When TRON Lightcycle / Run opens at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, it will be a duplicate of the extremely popular Shanghai Disneylandโs Tron Lightcycle Power Run. The ride will allow guests to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles and go on a high-speed adventure through Tronโs high-tech universe.
We have been expecting news of a potential 2022 opening for TRON Lightcycle / Run but there hasn’t been anything confirmed as of yet by Disney. We will keep you posted on our news and Facebook page. Let us know your thoughts by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page.
