Following the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, fans are eagerly awaiting to see what sort of inclusions they can expect to be added to Disney’s roster in the world of Pandora located in Animal Kingdom. Since the section first opened in May of 2017 with two big-ticket attractions to call it home, Pandora has maintained its position as one of the most heavily trafficked areas of the park. Since the Orlando park has added both Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey to its offerings already, fans of the Avatar franchise are undoubtedly curious to see how the new film is adapted to fit the theme park scene.
Perhaps we could be seeing a potential area expansion sometime in the future. Although the Way of Water was somewhat worse received than the original Avatar film, James Cameron paints another picture-perfect landscape with unique biodiversity and stunning scenery, perfect to pull inspiration from.
The inclusion of the second installment to the parks would open opportunities for guests to explore a new Na’vi nation along the beaches of Pandora. Perhaps a brand-new water ride would be most fitting. Regrettably, it’s far too early for anything more than speculation to circle as far as a new attraction goes, but for those too impatient to wait for big developments, worry not!
Currently, there are a handful specialty Metkayina dishes you can pick up at Satu’li Canteen for some authentic Na’vi cuisine including the Metkayina Mousse and the Ocean Moon Bowl, which both look as otherworldly as they sound.
If you’re looking for something other than a bite to eat, catch the nighttime Way of Water show projected onto the Tree of Life for a limited time only.
For a while, the future of the Avatar franchise seemed shaky after almost fifteen years without another installment. There was much debate about whether the franchise could return to its height of popularity after such a long hiatus, but the Way of Water solidified itself as a worthy contender and currently ranked as the (number) highest-grossing movie in the world.
The success of the Way of Water at the box office is likely to encourage Disney executives and imagineers to go forward with new Avatar-related expansions in the future, so fans of the franchise will be thrilled to know that more Way of Water elements incorporated in Disney parks are not only likely, but also only a matter of time.
Though there are not yet any big announcements about upcoming big-ticket Pandora attractions, there has been a lot of talk circulating online about the world of Avatar potentially coming to the west coast. Within the next few years, Disneyland could be welcoming in its own version of Pandora following the success and high performance of its sister location in Orlando.
Despite no concrete plans to bring the new nation into Disney parks in a more permanent way, it’s safe to say that with the returning buzz around the Avatar franchise, Pandora’s future at Disney is looking brighter than ever.
How would you like to see this new culture integrated into the current park layout? Do you think there will be another Avatar-themed attraction coming to Orlando in the next few years?
