Alton Towers is located in Staffordshire in the UK and during the closure over the summer, due to COVID-19, the popular UK television programme ‘Top Gear’ got the opportunity to race three electric cars around the empty theme park to put them through their paces in a very entertaining episode.
The three electric cars that presenters Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness raced around Alton Towers were the new Honda E, Mini Electric and Vauxhall Corsa-E.
The race started at Towers street at the entrance to Alton Towers and each driver had to find their way to the iconic Nemesis ride, located on the opposite side of the park. To make the task even more difficult they each had to go via themed lands including X-sector, The Dark Forest and Gloomy Wood and producers had set up a number of blockades around the park making it impossible to take certain routes. Armed with only a visitor map they started their batteries and off they raced.
During the race, which is embedded below, you get great views of the empty theme park, a sight that guests never have the pleasure of seeing. You also see footage of a number of Alton Towers’ most popular rides including Oblivion, The Smiler, Rita, Wicker Man and Nemesis. If you are looking for 10 minutes to relax then you won’t be disappointed in seeing this amusing and entertaining race around one of the UK’s most popular theme parks.
I have been lucky enough to visit Alton Towers on numerous occasions, as I live in the UK. Let us know what you think about the park and the race around it by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page.
