Halloween starts Next Month at the Magic Kingdom. Here’s What You Need to Know

Though we’re only halfway through July, Halloween is almost here as the 2018 edition of Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom will be kicking off in less than a month, with the first event night happening on August 17th, the earliest this event has ever been offered. And in case you need a bit of a reminder, here is the full schedule (as well as ticket prices):

  • August 17, 24, 31; September 7, 14, 21, 25 – Adult $89, Child $84.
  • August 28; September 3, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 –  Adult $85, Child $80.
  • September 28, 30; October 2, 4 –  Adult $99, Child $94.
  • October 5, 12, 19, 26, 28, 30 – Adult $119, Child $114.
  • October 8, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25 – Adult $109, Child $104.
  • October 31 – Adult $125, Child $120

As you can see, this year’s event will be offered for more nights than ever before, and though some might call this a bit excessive, Disney is also adding some new features to this year’s event to try and bolster interest from fans who may have skipped the last few years…

1. Three attractions to get spooky new features for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Though the biggest draws for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party are the character interactions, the parade, the fireworks, and of course the candy, it looks like Disney is looking to pump some new energy into this event after a few years of stagnation by adding the following improvements to these three classic rides:

  • Mad Tea Party: This attraction will take you for a colorful ride as new lighting and effects give a new spin on this classic spinning attraction in Fantasyland
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Over in Adventureland, new pirates will invade this attraction, interacting with sailing guests who will join the search for “Gunpowder Pete.” Though we don’t know exactly where these new character interactions will take place (we’d guess it will be part of the queue), we’re very excited to see what kind of interactive element comes to this attraction this fall.
  • Space Mountain: Finally, over in Tomorrowland, guests who board this attraction will be able to hurtle through deep space as a new soundtrack and special effects transform the adventure. No information has been released on what exactly these new effects will be or how they’ll relate to the Halloween holiday, but any update to the Magic Kingdom’s version of this attraction is more than welcome.

Right now it looks like these changes and enhancements to these popular attractions will only be available  for guests attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, with the regular versions of these attractions available during regular hours for day guests. And though we’re very excited to see these changes in action after hours at the Magic Kingdom during this annual event, these attraction enhancements aren’t the only changes coming to 2018’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

2. New Disney Junior Dance Party to debut this year

In addition to the ride enhancements mentioned previously,  it was also announced recently that a new entertainment offering geared towards the youngest attendees of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party would be added this year: the all-new Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam. This kid-focused entertainment option is a dance party that will favorite several Disney Junior Characters, including Doc McStuffins, and probably Vampirina as well!

3. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular and Hallo-Wishes returning in 2018

Though it is not exactly a surprise, Disney has confirmed that both the Hocus Pocus Villain SpellTacular as well as Hallo-Wishes are going to be returning to 2018’s event. Though some have been wondering when the last vestige of the old Wishes show might be updated to be more in line with the current Happily Ever After show, it looks like both fans and Disney are happy to keep this show as-is, which is definitely good news for now.

Though Disney shocked longtime guests earlier this year by announcing that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was expanding into summer, it looks like they are at least going to be offering some interesting new things to do when the event kicks off in less than a month. However, it will be interesting to see how many guests show up for these earlier events, as celebrating Halloween nearly three months before the actual event seems a little crazy, even by Disney’s standards! Will you be attending this year’s event at the Magic Kingdom?
