UPDATE (February 9) – Carry cases are now available again for Lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop.
Star War fans will be well aware of Savi’s Workshop which located in Star Wars: Galaxy Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is here that you have the opportunity to hand build your own Lightsaber. On Walt Disney World’s website it describes the experience as:
“Travel to Black Spire Outpost, where a group known as the “Gatherers” ushers you into a covert workshop packed with unusual parts, whimsical pieces and miscellaneous memorabilia collected from the far reaches of the galaxy.
Under their guidance, you can construct your very own lightsaber and bring it to life through the power of kyber crystals. Builders beware—you must protect the shop’s secrecy to avoid being discovered by the First Order!”
The cost of each Lightsaber is $219.99 plux tax. An important part of the package is that it includes a carry case (see important details on Walt Disney World website) which is essential in order to protect your expensive new Lightsaber and keep it safe when enjoying the rest of your time in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Disney’s Hollywood Studios park.
Due to what are being called “supply chain issues”, guests who purchase a $219 lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop are no longer being given a carrying case to protect their new collectible.
There have been some reports that guests are being given a plastic bag as the only alternative. Originally, even a discount was not offered by Disney with guests being told they can cancel the experience and get a refund if they wanted. For a guest with a child looking forward to this amazing experience, cancelling isn’t really an option.
Disney is now offering a small 10% discount (just over $20) for guests to make up for the change. Premium carrying cases are still being sold inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for $50. We are hoping this issue in the supply chain will be rectified very quickly and Disney will reinstate carry cases so excited Star Wars Fans will cease to leave Savi’s workshop disappointed.
