UPDATE March 12 – With the officially opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom on April 4, there had been speculation that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind which has used a virtual queue since its opening on May 27, 2022 would cease to have one.
It was confirmed this week by reporter, Scott Gustin that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will continue to have a virtual queue and Lightning Lane access when TRON Lightcycle / Run opens on April 4.

This news will surely please Disney fans particularly as it will likely be easier to secure a space in the virtual queue as soon as TRON Lightcycle / Run opens.
May 18 – with the official opening of Guardians of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind quickly approaching, we now have further details of how the virtual queue will work. Reporter Scott Gustin, posted a tweet outlining that there will be two opportunities for park guests and an extra option for qualifying resort guests on nights when Extended Evening Hours are offered at EPCOT.
NEW: When Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens on May 27, you will be able to join the virtual queue at 7 am and/or 1 pm (if available).

As you can see from the tweet embedded above, guests will be able to join the virtual queue at 7:00AM and/or 1:00PM (if available). For the 7:00AM virtual queue drop guests do not need to be in the park but for the 1:00PM (if available) guests MUST be in the park. On Extended Evening Hours Days, resort guests who qualify (Deluxe resort guests) will have the opportunity of a third virtual queue drop at 6:00PM and won’t have to be in the park to access this.
There is inevitably going to be huge demand for the new Guardians of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster when it officially opens on May 27, at EPCOT. We hope with the two virtual queue opportunities plus the extra one for qualifying guests on Extended Evening Hours Dates that it will be a smooth and successful opening.
UPDATE May 17 – We heard at the beginning of May that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will have a virtual queue and unsurprisingly an Individual Lightning Lane also. We now have more information about the Lightning Lane queue for this new roller coaster at EPCOT.
Reporter Scott Gustin, has posted on twitter a walk through video of the Lightning Lane queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind which will briefly go through the Galaxarium so guests get a glimpse of what it has to offer but will completely skip the Xandar Gallery. The queue merge point is right before the Welcome Center holding chamber.

Having watched the video embedded above it sure does look to be a fairly bland queue with a lot of plain corridors with some information and photos on the wall and one video towards the end. It doesn’t seem like guests who choose Individual Lightning Lane will have the best pre-ride experience. May 4 – It has just been announced that when Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewinds opens at EPCOT on May 27 it will only have a virtual queue.
That’s right, you read it correctly, there will be no standby queue for Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. A tweet from journalist Scott Gustin can be seen below:
NEW: When Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT opens, a virtual queue will be in place. A regular standby queue will not be available.
Individual Lightning Lane will also be offered. pic.twitter.com/bzhlpTVjI2

This won’t come as much of a surprise to many Disney fans as this strategy was exactly what was adopted when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened back in 2019. In order for guests to be able to ride they had to procure a boarding group using the MyDisneyExperience app Virtual Queue feature. It was only on September 23, 2021 just prior to the introduction of Genie+ that the standby queue was opened and the virtual queue was paused. You can now of course pay for an Individual Lightning Lane for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
So, a virtual queue system will be used for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind when it officially opens on May 27. This attraction will also be able to be experienced if you purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for it.
We don’t have any further details right now about exactly how the virtual queue will work or the price of the Individual Lightning Lane and indeed how they will work together but we will keep you up to date with further information when it is announced on our news and Facebook page.
Do you think a virtual queue is the best choice for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind? Will you be purchasing an individual Lightning Lane for this new attraction? Let us know your thoughts by leaving us a comment below.
