Gangsta Granny: The Ride, is Alton Towers new 4D Dark Ride for 2020. It will sit centre stage in a new area of the theme park, formerly known as Cloud Cuckoo Land, which is being transformed into ‘The World of David Walliams’. The new headliner attraction, Gangsta Granny: The Ride will be housed in the former Wobble World building which was last used as the House of Monsters scare attraction during Scarefest in 2018.
A number of the existing rides in the area will have a full make over to successfully submerse them in the theming of the new world. The Gallopers will become the Royal Carousel and the current Frog Hopper will be re-imagined as Raj’s Bottom Burp which I can see will be a favourite amongst children, (and although many may not admit it) and parents alike. Finally, the Wobble World Cafe will become Raj’s shop where bargains are promised to be found.
Alton Towers is renown for pushing the boundaries and creating world firsts in their new rides, with Secret Weapon rides such as Nemesis and Oblivion still being park favourites after decades of ride time. The collaboration with Walliams has been an exciting project, first rumoured in 2018 and confirmed in October 2019.
Gangsta Granny: The ride is the first of David Walliams’ books to be made into a ride at Alton Towers. The attraction is promised to be packed full of special effects with twists and turns a plenty, as you set off in your royal carriage with Granny and Ben to the Tower of London to embark on a journey to try and pull off the greatest jewel heist in history. Guests will board moving cars which look to carry up to 8 passengers (2 rows of 4) and will travel along the track encountering 360 degree turns as well as amazing sights and smells to submerge you fully in the story.
Your immersion in ‘The World of David Walliams’ doesn’t stop in the Theme Park, Gangsta Granny themed rooms are available in the Onsite Alton Towers Hotel. For full information including discounts and to book visit Alton Towers Holidays.
