Gangsta Granny: The Ride Opening On 17th May at Alton Towers

Alton Towers has just announced that their new and much anticipated attraction Gangsta Granny: The Ride will open on 17th May. Alton Towers theme park officially opens on 12th April.

Originally due to open at Alton Towers in Spring 2020, fans of David Walliams will be thrilled to hear this news that the opening of Gangsta Granny: The Ride is now less than a couple of months away.

Alton Towers has released a number of photos to give eager guests a glimpse of what they can expect from the new attraction which sits centre-stage in the new land ‘The World of David Walliams’ which is situated in the former Cloud Cuckoo area of the park next to The Dark Forest.

Alton Towers announced this exciting news on their Facebook page today with these words:

“Get set to experience the thrilling new multi-sensory ride as you join Ben and Granny as they attempt the greatest heist in the history of the world: to steal the Crown Jewels!”

From the photos, you can see that guests will sit in rows of four. There are two rows of four in each car but we are assuming only one household will be loaded per car when the ride opens in May due to physical distancing measures which are currently in place. More information regarding this can be found on the Alton Towers website.

The attraction appears to be heavily themed. The ride is promised to be packed full of special effects with twists and turns a plenty, as you set off in your royal carriage with Granny and Ben to the Tower of London to embark on a journey to try and pull off the greatest jewel heist in history. The moving cars (Royal Carriages!) will travel along the track encountering 360 degree turns as you enter the sewers and the crown jewels vault on your wild adventure where you can also expect to meet the Queen! Not only are there amazing sights but smells to submerge you fully in the story.

A number of the existing rides in the area have also had a full make over to successfully submerse them in the theming of the new ‘World of David Walliams’. The Gallopers has been transformed into the Royal Carousel and the Frog Hopper has been re-imagined as Raj’s Bottom Burp which I can see will be a favourite amongst children, (and although many may not admit it) and parents alike. Finally, the Wobble World Cafe will become Raj’s shop where bargains are promised to be found.

Those guests who want to be fully immersed in The World of David Wallaims for their whole stay, Alton Towers aren’t missing a trick as Gangsta Granny: The Ride themed rooms will be available to book at the Onsite Alton Towers Hotel. For full information visit Alton Towers Holidays website.

Children can relax on Granny’s special mobility scooter which surely can’t fail to be a hit.

There is a hunt to complete where children have to look around the room in order to find the magical code to unlock the vault. Those that are successful will be rewarded with sweets from Raj’s shop.
