At the beginning of January we heard the news that would have certainly pleased non-smokers which was that Universal Orlando Resort had significantly reduced the number of designated smoking areas. For any Universal fans who are smokers this was unlikely to be the news they wanted to kick off 2023 with.
Universal Orlando Resort reduced the designated smoking areas to one per park. New information appeared to confirm this on the official website. These are now the only areas where smoking is permitted at Universal Orlando Resort:
- Universal Studios Florida’s area is located in Gramercy Park.
- Universal’s Islands of Adventure’s area is located in the Port of Entry lower landing.
- Universal’s Volcano Bay’s area is located in Wave Village (East).
- Near each theme park’s exit (Universal CityWalk)
- Lower lagoon landing in front of Hard Rock Cafe® Orlando, To the left of Red Coconut Club (Universal CityWalk)
- Outside of Universal Cinemark and Hollywood Drive-In Golf™ (Universal CityWalk)
Although nothing has been officially confirmed by Universal, we assumed that this reduction in designated smoking areas was likely going to be a way of transitioning to becoming a smoke free resort in the future. Walt Disney World went smoke free in 2019 and we are expecting when Universal opens Epic Universe in Summer 2025 that it will be smoke free from the beginning.
We were very interested in finding out your views on whether you think Universal should become smoke free and asked you to vote in our poll.
From the responses we have had, the results speak for themselves. Majority of voters, 68% have said no to the question, do you think Universal Orlando Resort should be smoke free? 32% have voters in favor of the whole resort becoming smoke free. As already stated, there has not been any confirmation as of yet as to whether it is Universal’s plan for the resort but we will keep you posted on this.
