With restrictions on theme park attendance lifted in the state of Florida, crowds have been steadily growing at Walt Disney World theme parks, particularly Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is still seeing increased demand driven largely by Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. In response to the increasing guest levels at this park. Disney has made some operational changes at this park, beginning today, including the following:
Increased hours at Backlot Express
Though several dining locations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are seeing reduced hours (PizzeRizzo, Ronto Roasters), one of the more popular quick service stops, Backlot Express, is extending its operating hours, and will now be serving guests at this park until 5:00 PM.
Additional gift shop reopening
The majority of gift shops at Disney’s Hollywood Studios have reopened, but some have remained closed due to general budget cuts and/or poor traffic flow. However, as of this week, Keystone Clothiers has reopened. Some of the changes inside this store include controlled capacity, a single entrance and marked exits, plus social distancing markers inside the shop. As was the case prior to the shutdown, this location sells mainly Star Wars merchandise.
New entertainment options
Though the vast majority of shows at Walt Disney World remain dark, it has been announced that For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration has reopened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with nine showtimes. The show is essentially the same, but parties are separated by empty seats to promote physical distancing.
In addition, this park is hosting mini character cavalcades that allow guests to see their favorite characters from a distance, including the following:
- Mickey and Friends Motorcade highlights Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and their friends Chip ‘n’ Dale, accompanied by a bouncy musical score inspired by Disney cartoon shorts.
- The Pixar Pals Motorcade takes the Incredibles, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and others down the avenue, waving to their fans to the beat of the Green Army Drum Corps.
- The Disney Junior Stars Motorcade brings favorite TV friends Fancy Nancy, Doc McStuffins and Vampirina to Hollywood Boulevard.
These unscheduled cavalcades will be unscheduled and happen intermittently throughout the day
