UPDATE: You can check out the official DisneylandForward website here, which details the goals of the project, and mentions new potential lands inspired by Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan for Disneyland Park and new Zootopia, Toy Story, and Tron attractions for Disney California Adventure.
The OC Register is reporting that Disneyland has announced a long-term expansion plan for the resort known as “DisneylandForward” which would add new theme park, retail and parking areas to the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort, expanding the footprint of the resort for the first time in almost 30 years. You can check out concept art of these new expansion plans below:
Though Disney has stopped short of calling this a “third gate” for the Disneyland resort, the east-side site expansion area has long been discussed as a possible spot for a new theme park throughout the years, which certainly has longtime Disneyland fans very excited about the possibility of a new park at this resort.
Right now the DisneylandForward project is very early, and its unknown whether Disney will be trying to incorporate these ideas into their existing parks, or will be creating something entirely new. According to a statement, the DisneylandForward project is part of Disney’s effort to work with the city to grow the Disneyland resort, update the blueprint for the resort district and propel Anaheim’s economic rebound following the COVID-19 pandemic.
As with other Disneyland Expansion projects that have been announced in the past (and haven’t gone forward), DisneylandForward will need to be signed off by Anaheim’s local government leaders after planning decisions are made, a process that’s expected to last two years before final decisions are made. So while it is exciting to see that Disneyland could be getting bigger in the future, unfortunately it will likely be quite some time before we get any concrete details about this project. You can check out the OC Register for more on this project.
