Earlier this month it was announced iconic Disneyland attraction Snow White’s Scary Adventures would be closing sometime next year for a major refurbishment. A permit obtained by the OC Register states that refurbishment work will include the removal and replacement of show sets, props and scenes. In addition during this refurbishment, new structural beams will be installed, rock work will be refurbished and electrical upgrades will be made.
And though the information was scarce on this refurbishment when it was first announced, Disney has released some new details about what we can expect from this reimagined ride when it reopens after next year’s refurbishment.
Reimagining the story of Snow White
Disney announced several days ago that during this refurbishment of Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Walt Disney Imagineering will be “reimagining” the story of Snow White, with enhanced story details and new scenes, including a vignette showing Snow White in a forest, recalling the scene from the film where the original Disney princess awakes from her deep sleep following true love’s kiss. In addition, a new finale where Snow White is reunited with her animal friends, and a large and welcoming castle is seen in the distance will be added during this refurbishment
Technical upgrades
In addition to refreshing the story of this attraction, Walt Disney Imagineers will implement state-of-the-art audio and visual technology throughout Snow White’s Scary Adventures during this refurbishment as well, which will include new music, LED black lighting, laser projections, and a new animation system. These upgrades are in line with what we saw in the original permit filing, which specifically mentioned new projector platforms, as part of the upcoming refurbishment.

Finally, in addition to all the technical and story upgrades, Disney has confirmed that Snow White’s Scary Adventures’ exterior will be completely reimagined during this refurbishment as well, with new fairy tale-inspired details being added in an effort to complement the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle, just steps away from this attraction. Though we don’t know exactly how far Disney will go with this aspect of the refurbishment, it looks like they may be looking to remove some of the more foreboding elements of this attraction’s entrance and give it more of a lighthearted facade.
Is Disney taking the “Scary” out of Snow White’s Scary Adventures?

Though this isn’t the first time Disney has tried to alter the tone of Snow White’s Scary Adventures, some are worried that Disney may be adding these new scenes at the expense of some of the iconic “scary” moments in this attraction. And while we can’t say for sure if this is the case, we’d say if you like the ride the way it is now, you’ll definitely want to experience it in the near future, as Disney hasn’t mentioned what other changes they are making besides the upgrades and new additions.
Snow White’s Scary Adventures will remain open in its current state through January 6, 2020, and then will close for an unspecified amount of time while the refurbishment work is completed, reopening sometime later in the year, hopefully before the busy summer travel season!
