Disneyland PeopleMover Return Not Mentioned At D23!

UPDATE September 12 – Many fans of the PeopleMover at Disneyland were hoping for an update on Disney’s plans for this much loved attraction at the D23 Expo which took place over the weekend in Anaheim. Well the simple fact is that it wasn’t mentioned. The original rumor that it could be making a comeback was floated back in July and since then nothing has been confirmed or denied by Disney.

Since Disney announced a number of updates of what fans can expect at Disneyland Resort in the coming years including Avengers Campus’ New Multiverse Themed E-Ticket Attraction Will Feature King ThanosTwo Long-Awaited Character Meet and Greets Are Coming To Disneyland’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus’ New Giant Hulk Offers A Glimpse At The Future Of Character Meet And Greets, it doesn’t look likely that transforming the PeopleMover is currently part of its plan for the future.

July 13 – Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park is set for a huge transformation over the next few years and there has now been a rumor that the iconic PeopleMover could make a return to Disneyland Park.

If the PeopleMover were to return, the rumor is that it will have a “budget conscious” ride system using “widely available ride technology”. The length would also be adjusted to make it shorter. It is not expected that the track would be used which is actually still in place above Autopia and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

It seems that although there are indeed remnants of the PeopleMover still in place at Disneyland Park, the plans would be to remove or change this considerably, essentially starting fresh to create a completely updated PeopleMover.

PeopleMover, Presented by Goodyear or PeopleMover for short debuted on July 2, 1967, barely 18 months after the 1964 New World’s Fair closed (in October of 1965). At the time the mechanical wheels hosted in the tracks was cutting edge transportation technology.

The PeopleMover had been carefully designed to ensure that its path would carry guests by the many new and recently improved attractions at Tomorrowland. Disney invested a lot of money in modernizing the futuristic themed land. Thanks to the path of the PeopleMover, guests could appreciate just how much Tomorrowland had improved.

It would make sense with Disney now beginning a huge transformation of Tomorrowland that they being the classic attraction, PeopleMover back in order to showcase the upgraded and new attractions of Tomorrowland.
