Although it was originally listed on Disneyland’s park calendar that on January 24, 2022 the Disneyland Monorail would be closed for refurbishment. New details have now come to light regarding this closure. It has now been confirmed that the Disneyland Monorail will now close on February 14 and will reopen on March 6, 2022.
The reason for this closure is not for a refurbishment as was initially reported but in order for the demolition of the AMC building to take place so work can start on the reimagining of Downtown Disney. The reimaging of Downtown Disney was originally announced in November 2021.
The Disney monorail opened in 1959 and was the first daily-operating monorail system in the Western Hemisphere. With its Mark VII trains and 600-volt DC power source it now emits no direct exhaust or pollutants into the atmosphere.
Guests with valid theme park admission can skip the Main Entrance to the Disneyland Park by catching the monorail at the Downtown Disney District station and travel straight into Tomorrowland. It is a truly iconic journey around the resort.
