It often seems like TikTok has taken over the world and the craze from the last few months seems to be people trying to get “dress coded” at Walt Disney World and then being given a free shirt. With a video going viral with over 7 million views back in March this has fueled the trend even further. However, it appears Disney is putting its foot down.
Some guests are deliberately going to the Walt Disney World parks inappropriately dressed in skimpy tops which are showing too much skin trying to get themselves a voucher for a free shirt to put on which is what happened in the case of the video which went viral back in March.
It appears, however, that Disney are getting wise to this and are becoming more vigilant. It has been seen this week that one guest who was inappropriately dressed was actually turned away from a Walt Disney World park and was told she would need to go back and get changed before she would be admitted.
Walt Disney World has a dress code which is clear on the official website. It begins by stating:
“Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense.”
It goes on to state under the heading of Inappropriate Attire that:
Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to.”
The dress code lists a number of inappropriate costumes which are not permitted to be worn and also lists, “Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment.”
Disney are within their rights to turn guests away who are not complying with the dress code which is what happened to this guest. Hopefully, if Disney continues to carefully monitor what guests are wearing as they enter the parks and are consistent in their dealings with it, certainly not giving away free merchandise, then we will see a reduction in this TikTok craze at Walt Disney World in the future.
