Only a few days after it was confirmed that the Blue Man Group show would not be reopening at Universal Orlando Resort, it looks like another show has been confirmed to be closed forever. After weeks of rumors, Universal confirmed via its official Twitter account that A Day in the Park with Barney at Universal Studios Florida will not be reopening at the park.
A Day in the Park with Barney was one of the oldest attractions at Universal Studios Florida, opening on July 11th, 1995, on the former site of The Bates Motel Set. The show was an anchor of the park’s KidZone area, which also includes a Curious George themed play area, Fivel’s Playland, and Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster.
Though A Day in the Park with Barney did open for a little while last summer, the show shut down on August 9, 2020 due to low crowds. However, it looks like this temporary closure unfortunately became permanent.
No additional information was shared about this development other than the closure itself, and it is too soon to know if Universal will be putting another show in this space or destroying this theater to make way for something new.
