Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now open at Disneyland Resort, and will be opening in just under two months at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, things at Disneyland have been a little soft in regards to this new land opening, and some are concerned that we could see a similar slowness at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well.
And while there are probably a lot of factors behind why guests haven’t shown up to experience this land the way that Disney initially thought they would, one big reason could be that the land isn’t even technically done yet, as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the “E” ticket associated with this land has not opened yeat at Disneyland and will not open with the rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this August at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, reports seem to indicate that Disney is really trying to get this attraction open as soon as possible, and we could be coming face to face with Kylo Ren in the very near future
Could Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance be ready in time for the D23 Expo in Anaheim?
Though there has been plenty of news out of Disney parks recently, all eyes are on Anaheim, as the bi-annual D23 Expo is being held there from August 23-25, with a special Disney Parks panel happening on the last day of the convention, where we are expecting some major announcements. And while we’d assume that an opening target for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance would be one of the many announcements we’ll hear during this panel, some insiders are suggesting that Disneyland’s version of the ride could be ready to go by the time the D23 Expo comes around, with Disney “surprise” opening the attraction for convention attendees, similarly to the way they did a surprise early opening for Disneyland’s updated Fantasmic! back in 2017.
Now of course, this doesn’t really mean much for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which will be opening their own version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (with Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run only) just a week after the D23 Expo. However it has been suggested that we could see Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance openin in Florida before the end of the year as well (potentially in the busy holiday period), though the timeline for Walt Disney World is a little bit fuzzier since their construction on this attraction is farther behind that of Disneyland.
So while there isn’t much that we know right now for certain, we hopefully won’t have to wait too long to find out more, as the D23 Expo is coming very soon! And while it is certainly frustrating for guests to have to wait for this attraction to open, here’s why Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be worth it.
The most technical ride ever created
One of the big reasons why we are seeing so many delays with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is that this new E-ticket attraction will be one of the most technically advenaced ever created, with a whopping total of 305 animatronic figures and droids, almost a third of which are expected to be Stormtroopers inside its walls.
In addition, reports indicate this attraction will have 18 different show scenes that involve 5 different ride systems, making it one of the most intricate rides at a Disney park ever. And with competition increasing from parks like Universal (which has opened the screen-free Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure to great fanfare), Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance sounds like just the attraction needed to usher in a new era of dark rides at not just Disney parks, but at theme parks around the world!
Though Disney hasn’t released a lot of official information about Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, we expect that to change very soon, as opening plans are confirmed for this exciting new attraction, which will hopefully be opening on both coasts sometime this year!
