Carowinds which is located in Charlotte, North Carolina has moved to year-round operations this year with the park now open every weekend until the beginning of the official season in March when the park will also then open on a Thursday and Friday as well as the weekend.
We heard back in 2022 that Carowinds would be opening a new area called Aeronautica Landing which will consist of five newly themed attractions and a renovation of an existing attraction, giving it six in total. Aeronautica Landing officially opened on Friday, April 7. A video is posted below by Fantastic Attractions of the Media Day on April 6 to give you a full look at this new area and all the new themed attractions.
It is important to note that this area will likely appeal most to families as all six themed attractions are flat rides which are not aimed to fulfil the needs of any thrill lovers. It is however, already getting a lot of positive feedback and has certainly done the job of revitalising the area. We are also embedding this video posted by In The loop which includes footage from Carowinds PR team.
Aeronautica Landing is “a tribute to the Carolina’s spirit of invention, exploration, and aviation, where guests can immerse themselves in the history and future of flight.”
- It includes 5 newly themed attractions; Air Racers (Zamperla Air Race), Air Walker (Zamperla Disk’O), Gear Spin (Zamperla NebulaZ), Gyro Force (a Trabant style ride) and a Zamperla WindstarZ attraction which have hang-glider themed vehicles and be a spin-arounds family friendly flat ride.
- The current Dodgem bumper cars have been re-themed and will be called Hover and Dodge. There are 50 new cars featuring futuristic theming and four different color schemes. There is also an updated sound and lighting system to revitalise the attraction.
- The area has a new Italian restaurant called Hugo’s Italian Kitchen which is set to feature a craft beer bar and patio and include indoor and outdoor seating. Terminal A will be the new bar.
- Four new midway games will be brought to the area as well as a rethemed basketball game.
2023 marks Carowinds 50th year and this new Aeronautica Landing area should ensure that it celebrates in style. Carowinds released a number of images showing concept art which can be seen below.
Here is a construction update video from March posted by Theme Park Predictions. You can see the site and the locations for all 6 attractions. It is set to be a heavily themed area when it opens and we are really looking forward to the end result.
