One of the biggest projects in the state of Florida right now is the Brightline high speed rail, which will eventually connect Miami to the Orlando International Airport, with stops in major cities like West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale in between. And now it has been revealed that Walt Disney World will be a part of this project, and will be adding a Brightline Rail station to its Disney Springs shopping and dining district.
When completed, the station at Disney Springs will include a lobby on the ground level, passenger facilities and an upper-level train platform, giving guests an easy connection to Walt Disney World from several points around the state. An exact location for the station within the existing Disney Springs facility has not been confirmed just yet.
As with most major projects, Brightline did not provide an estimate on when construction may begin but we’d guess that the Disney Springs Station is still a few years out as construction on the main line is still ongoing and is not expected to be completed until at least 2022. However, it has been confirmed that engineering for the proposed Disney Springs station has already begun, which is definitely good news for this project moving forward.
Other long range plans for the Brightline high-speed rail in Florida include an Orlando-Tampa connector, which could also help more guests from the sunshine state get to Walt Disney World without the need for cars in the years ahead. Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline released a statement about this development, saying “Our mission has always been to connect our guests to the people and places that matter, and Walt Disney World Resort is a tremendous example of this.”
Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort also released a statement about this project, saying “We’re excited to work with Brightline as they pursue the potential development of a train station at Walt Disney World Resort, a project that would support our local economy and offer a bold, forward-looking transportation solution for our community and guests.”
