The Big Debate – Will You Buy Genie+?

Disney has now officially confirmed that FastPass+ is dead and Genie+ is born.

It was an announcement that majority of us were expecting. With the information that was shared last week about the new Genie+ Lightning Lane Service our debate this week simply asks, Will You Buy Genie+?

So, in summary what is Genie+? Well, this is Disney’s new paid FastPass service which replaces FastPass+. Disney Genie is a free In-App planning service aimed at helping your best Disney day. As an addition to this you have Genie+, both services will exist inside the current Walt Disney World app.

    Genie+ gives guests two options:

    1. Pay $15 per guest to have access to Lightning Lanes which essentially are the same as the FastPass lanes. These lanes can be booked from 7am on the day of your visit if you are a Hotel guest and from when you enter the park for all other guests. You select your first attraction (from a list of 40 including Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain) that you would like to ride and then choose your time from the time slots available. You can only book one Lightning Lane at a time, similar to the original paper FastPass system so when one is redeemed you can then go back to the App and book another and so on throughout the day.
    2. Certain E-ticket attractions are not included, such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Seven Dwarves Mine Train and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure currently and will have virtual queues which won’t have to be paid for. However, if you don’t manage to get a boarding time in the virtual queue then your only option will be to purchase through Genie+. Guests will only be allowed to purchase two of these per day. Prices haven’t yet been released with Disney saying they will be based on demand. We are guessing that guests will need to therefore plan to pay a hefty price if they want to FastPass these E-ticket attractions.

You can check out the video below, posted by Disney Parks which outlines in detail the new Genie service which is coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland in the Fall. It also includes further details from Gary Daniels, VP, Digital Experience, Disney Parks:

It looks like guests aren’t going to have much choice but to purchase Genie+ if they are hoping to get to ride many attractions at Walt Disney World or Disneyland when Genie+ debuts later this year. So, in this week’s Big Debate we ask, Will you Buy Genie+?
