The Big Debate – Should Staggered Booking Windows Become Permanent for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance?

Rise of the Resistance, Walt Disney World

We are currently living in a time where they have been so many changes over the last six months. All theme parks across the world have had to develop comprehensive health and safety plans which have had to be fully implemented in order for them to be able to reopen their gates during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort have updated their face coverings policies again this week and we can be confident that more changes will be announced in the coming weeks as reported COVID-19 cases appear to still be on the rise in Florida.

Managing capacity at the parks is hugely important to ensure social distancing measures are able to be adhered to. As a result of this, every guest needs to have a reservation as well as a valid ticket.

In our last debate we discussed the three major changes that have been put into place and kicked off our mini series with a debate asking you whether Fastpass+ should be gotten rid of permenantly?

Our new debate looks at the change to obtaining boarding passes on the hugely popular Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios…

With social distancing and park passes required for all guests, the system used to get a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance prior to Walt Disney World’s closure back in March just wouldn’t be possible to continue when Disney’s Hollywood Studios officially reopened on July 15.

It required guests to often line up hours in advance of the park opening in order to obtain a boarding group, which were distributed on a first- come, first-serve basis.

Disney announced that they would use staggered booking windows to distribute boarding passes,  and is now distributing boarding passes at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

With attendance still low at the parks, majority of guests who experienced the original system are unlikely to have had the chance to try out the new staggered system but none the less we are asking you the question, Should Staggered Booking Windows Become Permanent for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance?

To me, this system seems like a good idea but I have not experienced it. Should it remain in place even when capacity at the parks can be increased and there perhaps isn’t the need for reservations? It seems a fairer way of doing it. Be sure to vote below to let us know what you think.

Here are the options, I added the extra choice for yes, purely if you think that it should remain and you think it would work well to roll this out to help mitigate wait times at other top rides/attractions across the Walt Disney World parks:

  • Yes
  • No
  • Yes, and it should be done for the other top rides in each park.
