The Haunted Mansion is of of the most Iconic Attractions at The Magic Kingdom, Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland and I am sure many fans could retell the ride almost word for word if they were asked to.
Last summer, after the news of the Splash Mountain reimagining, some fans took it upon themselves to state that if attractions were being changed due to inappropriate subject material then the “hanging ghost” scene in the Haunted Mansion pre-show should definitely be addressed. This sparked the question, should the “hanging ghost” be removed? This has unsurprisingly been a controversial issue with Haunted Mansion fans making their voices heard on many websites and forums across the internet.
Last week, the LA Times stated that according to a Disney spokesperson who was speaking to the publication, Disney is considering removing the “Hanging Ghost” scene from the Haunted Mansion, saying, “It’s been discussed for sure,” and adding that “It’s definitely something that we’re thinking about.”
So, it looks like the removal of the “hanging ghost” may actually happen. For some guests this would probably be a disaster and for others I am guessing it probably won’t make a huge amount of difference at all.
Some readers I am sure may be asking themselves, what actually is the matter with the “hanging ghost” scene? Well there is inevitably no disputing the obvious that a lot of guests will find it quite gruesome and scary but the real problem appears to lie in the link it has to suicide and the noose which could be linked to the subject of lynching. This issue will therefore form the basis of our Big Debate for this week where we ask, Should Disney Remove “Hanging Ghost” From Haunted Mansion?

As usual we always aim to keep the voting options as simple as possible and it can’t get any simpler than this:
- Yes

I always like to predict what I think the outcome will be and I thought I would share my hypotheses with you this week. Here I think those that feel strongly that the “hanging ghost” scene is central to The Haunted Mansion pre-show attraction will want their voices to be heard. So, I think they will be the ones to vote therefore I predict a large majority will say “No”. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
