Malfunctions are to be expected on theme park attractions, we all know that. But when it becomes a more frequent issue, should we be concerned? Test Track experienced a malfunction yesterday which left guests crawling at 3mph at the end of the ride instead of the 60mph climax.
Disney hasn’t given details as to the reason for this malfunction and while we are sure this was likely just a one off issue it does make us think back to early February 2022.
We reported back in February that Test Track was experiencing issues which caused it to close early on numerous evenings. We originally thought these early evening closures were to perform routine maintenance but as they continued it seemed more likely Test Track was experiencing a maintenance issue which was forcing it to close early.
On February 24, we discovered a permit had been filed to carry out electrical work on Test Track and had been expecting a refurbishment to be announced. We are still waiting to hear about this refurbishment.
As far as we know, Test Track will be up and running today and the issue which caused the malfunction which led to guests travelling at a very slow 3mph rather than the usual 60mph has been rectified.
Test Track opened at EPCOT in March 1999 which means it is now over 23 years old. With this latest malfunction it does leave us to ask the question, does Test Track need an overhaul? Test Track is such an iconic attraction at EPCOT and we believe Disney will do everything it can to fix any issues there are in order to try and prevent further disruptions.
