On Saturday September 17, Carowinds was forced to close early after multiple fights broke out during the SCarowinds event. The incident quickly turned into choas with rumors of shots being fired and guests fleeing for exits and hiding wherever they could find a place in the park. The fights have been said to have initially involved minors.
As a result of this, Carowinds has announced that a new chaperone policy will be put into place, starting Friday September 23, for their SCarowinds Halloween event starting at 7:00PM. This means that any park guest aged 17 years old or younger will need to be accompanied by an adult aged 21 or over who will need to remain with them for the entirety of the event. The chaperone must present a valid government issued photo identification with date of birth at ticket entry.
SCarowinds runs on select evenings until October 30, 2022. As this point we are unsure whether Carowinds will continue to enforce this chaperone policy on weekends although this seems likely.
This is not the first time we have seen a headline like this. On August 16 there was an incident at Knott’s Berry Farm where multiple fights broke out which forced the park to close early. The Chaperone policy was then introduced as a result on July 22 and was extended to include all evenings of Knott’s Scary Farm which kicks off tomorrow (September 22) and runs through October 31.
