Whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World for a honeymoon, no-kids vacation, or simply a quick romantic getaway, the resort is a wonderful vacation for spending some time with that special person. Couples’ getaways to Walt Disney World are entirely different than the usual family trips, and while it may take some extra planning to make them even more special, it will surely be worth it.
Splurge on a deluxe resort
For the ultimate romantic trip to Walt Disney World, you’ll want to save the extra money to enjoy a stay at a deluxe resort. Aside from the impressive levels of detail and theming, deluxe resorts offer the most in terms of amenities and convenience to the theme park. All the deluxe resorts are located a very short distance from one of the theme parks, and many are accessible to one of the parks by walking, boat, or monorail allowing you to bypass the buses.
Deluxe resorts also come with more dining options, including multiple table service restaurants and lounges, and more elaborate pools and fitness facilities, and in some cases spas and health clubs. They are home to more recreational offerings, and generally more small conveniences that can make your stay more comfortable and romantic for a couple’s getaway.
And on a signature dining experience
A signature dining experience does not come cheap, but if you don’t mind a little splurge in the name of romance dining at a signature restaurant can be just the thing your trip needs. (And to make your stay at a deluxe resort even more convenient, you may not even need to leave the resort to enjoy a signature dining experience!)
When choosing a signature restaurant, be sure to research menus and prices before your trip. Some restaurants may be too adventurous or out of budget, and if you are using the dining plan it may be worth doing some extra research to ensure that the meal at a signature location is worth two credits. Once you have your dining experiences narrowed down, be sure to make reservations in advance as many of these locations do fill up.
Try a backstage tour
A romantic getaway is the perfect time to try new things that you do not normally do on your regular Disney trips. A backstage tour can be the perfect way to spend time with that special someone while learning more about your favorite vacation spot. And there is a backstage tour for everyone. Whether it be learning about what goes on behind the scenes at the Seas with Nemo and Friends in Epcot, getting up close and personal with the elephants that live in Animal Kingdom, or learning everything there is to know about the Magic Kingdom (including getting a glimpse of the utilidor), you are sure to find a backstage experience you’ll both enjoy!
Take to the water
For some seaworthy romance, take to the water! Hop aboard a fireworks cruise and catch Illuminations from the edge of World Showcase Lagoon, rent a smaller speedracer boat from Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and spend an afternoon sailing around the Magic Kingdom resort area, or go for a sail by Disney Springs aboard an Amphicar from the Boathouse. For a less splurge worthy boating experience, catch a boat from Disney Springs to Disney’s Old Key West or Saratoga Springs Resorts. These boats are more open (and relaxing) than the Friendship Boats in Epcot, and the longer ride is a nice way to relax at sea.
Or to horseback
For a different kind of recreational fun, visit the Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness and gear up for some horseback riding. Trail rides are a fun way to do something a little different during your Disney vacation, and while at the ranch you are also able to see the horses that pull the coaches on Main Street, as well as blacksmiths making their horseshoes, and you can learn about how they are taken care of. Not quite ready to ride a horse? Carriage and wagon rides also leave from Fort Wilderness for those less inclined to get right on their own horses.
Relax at the spa
Many Disney resorts offer spas, including the Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Coronado Springs Resorts. Treatments range from manicures and pedicures to deep tissue and hot stone massages and more. Each spa offers couples’ massages, with various packages and add-ons to individualize the experience for exactly what you need. You can typically book a spa visit during your trip, however Disney spas are busier during certain times of year, so if you have your heart set on a certain treatment on a certain day of your trip, you may want to book in advance of your trip.
Take professional photos
Now that you have your romantic getaway planned on, you’ll want to take something home to remember it by. The best way to get beautiful photos of you as a couple is to either prioritize stops at Disney’s PhotoPass locations while visiting the theme parks, or to spend some time with a professional Disney photographer on your own.
