If you’re looking for something fun to do at Walt Disney World that won’t drain your wallet, you’ll find a surprising number of options available to you.
There are several interactive games available throughout the parks that let you collect little keepsakes, find hidden secrets, and add some extra fun to your day. These options are particularly great for parties with children who don’t want to brave many rides, or annual passholders who have some extra time to kill and feel no urgency to hit all the rides again.
1. Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure
Agent P is on a mission to yet again thwart the evil plan of Dr. Doofenshmirtz. This time, he needs your help. Sign up at one of the recruitment centers located at the International Gateway, Odyssey Bridge, Norway, or Italy. You’ll get an interactive F.O.N.E. (Field Operative Notification Equipment) that gives you clues throughout the game. You’ll travel through several world showcase pavilions collecting clues and completing missions. Each mission takes between 30 and 45 minutes but you’re under no obligation to complete them all if you decide to pursue something else before you’re through the whole game.
If you do decide to keep going, you’ll receive a special thank you at the end of the trip. If you’re looking for something to keep the kids busy while you browse the gift shops and treats of World Showcase from an adult point of view, this is a great choice.
2. A Pirate’s Adventure – Treasures of the Seven Seas
If you’re a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll love A Pirate’s Adventure – Treasures of the Seven Seas. This new interactive adventure takes you around Adventureland uncovering clues that will lead you to one of five hidden treasures. Each mission has its own pirate map which makes a great souvenir and is completely free.
This game is particularly entertaining because you’ll activate different animations throughout the area, like shooting cannons and mysterious water tanks with hidden treasure inside. Each treasure takes about 20 minutes to locate following the clues. You’ll spend just under two hours finding them all. If you have kids who need something to keep them busy while other members of your party hop on big attractions like Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain, this is a great pick.
3. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is a wildly popular card game that you can keep playing for days. When you sign up to play you’ll receive your key card, a mystical map, and a package of five spell cards. The map will guide you on your quest and each mission offers a clue pointing you toward the next. You’ll hold your key card up to the interactive locks to activate each part of the game, then battle the various villains with your spell cards. The more spell cards you collect, the more options you’ll have for battling your foes.
This game can get quite complex. There are five levels – easy, medium, and hard. If you play at the easy level, you can have a great time whether you’re a serious collector or not. At the higher levels, you’ll need specific cards and pairs to defeat the villains. Each day you can get a free pack of five new cards, so if you’re an annual passholder or visit often, you can build a decent set without spending a dime. There are some cards, however, that you can only buy. Naturally, you always have the opportunity to purchase additional cards if you want to advance your game without waiting for your next daily pack.
You can defeat a single villain in about 15 to 20 minutes, but most lands have multiple villains to defeat. Walking from one land to another can take up a good chunk of the day so you could easily play for hours. When you beat the entire game, you’re rewarded with another free package of five cards.
4. Wilderness Explorers
If you’ve seen the Disney-Pixar film Up, you’re familiar with the Wilderness Explorers. Now your kids can join ranks with Russell and become Wilderness Explorers in their own right. When you begin your quest, you receive a Wilderness Explorers field guide. This interactive experience takes you all over the park completing various activities and learning more about the fascinating wildlife all over Animal Kingdom. Best of all, you earn a sticker badge for each activity you complete, and you can collect more than 30 stickers.
This activity is geared toward preschoolers and children, making it the perfect answer to “what now?” when you have smaller guests in your party. Since most of the big attractions like Everest and Dinosaur have height restrictions and ‘it’s tough to be a bug’ can frighten little ones, this option gives you something to occupy the younger set while others take on the big attractions.
If you have some extra time and you’re looking for something new to do, try playing these interactive games available throughout Walt Disney World.
