The 3 BIG Updates From Walt Disney World This Week (June 29-July 5, 2014)

This is the weekly news, rumors and refurbishments update for Walt Disney World for the week of June 29, 2014.

Here are the three biggest updates from around the resort for the past seven days…

1. Hub construction at the Magic Kingdom continues and scrims taken down

Scrims around it’s a small world were taken down.

Although, the scrims in Adventureland remain.

Construction continues to expand the Central Plaza of the Magic Kingdom. Walls are up on both sides of the bridge leading to Main Street USA.

The expansion includes an extra ring around the hub and a dedicated Fastpass+ viewing location. The construction will continue in phases with work being completed by the end of 2015.

2. The new Future World paint scheme expands at Epcot

Expecting to be completed by the end of summer, the new paint scheme in Future World is replacing the former pink/beige colors.

This is to the left of Spaceship Earth when entering the park.

This is by Mission Space/Ellen’s Energy Adventure.

The paint scheme is very chaotic but I have a theory. Future World East is painted with more blues and gray to depict Test Track and energy. Future World West is painted with more greens and browns to depict the land and nature. Either way, it brings more life into an otherwise stale part of the park.

3. The refurbishment of Disney’s Polynesian Resort is in full swing

Disney’s Polynesian Resort is undergoing a massive refurbishment and will eventually change its name to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The main water feature in the lobby is now completely walled off and the pool is expected to close later this month.

A new water feature will be placed by the entrance.

Work is also being done to replace many of the walking paths around the resort.

The bungalows are progressing quickly with windows now being installed.

The lobby is expected to be completed by early 2015, with the entire refurbishment completed by late 2015.
