Opened in 1999, Islands of Adventure marked a shift in focus for Universal. Instead of inviting guests to learn about the art of making movies, the park instead aims to place them inside the movies themselves. For hungry guests, that meant an increased focus on heavily-themed dining experiences, and indeed Islands of Adventure probably offers the best restaurants of any Universal theme park. Since we launched our theme park guideslast year, we’ve kept a close eye on the ratings and reviews that our readers have given to restaurants at 90+ parks all over the globe. As we’re focusing on Islands of Adventure as our “Park of the Month” for August, and to encourage more of our readers to rate the park’s offerings, here’s a rundown of the top 5 restaurants at the park.
5. Confisco Grille
Located in the Port of Entry, the Confisco Grille is a full-service restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch to visitors arriving at Islands of Adventure. It offers all-corners-of-the-world flair, in keeping with its location, and hosts a Cat in the Hat character breakfast on select days. Full details: Confisco Grille
4. The Hog’s Head Pub
Tucked away in the back corner of the Three Broomsticks in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Hog’s Head Pub’s signature offering is, of course, Butterbeer. This is served alongside a variety of domestic and imported beers, under the nose of an occasionally-squealing and snarling animatronic hog’s head. Full details: The Hog’s Head Pub guide
3. Thunder Falls Terrace
Overlooking the “thundering falls” that cascade from the Jurassic Park Environmental System Building, Thunder Falls Terrace offers spectacular chicken, turkey legs, soups, and salad. It also offers equally spectacular views of riders getting soaked at the finale of the Jurassic Park River Adventure – but be careful not to sit too close if you don’t want to get drenched yourself. 2. The Three Broomsticks
In keeping with its setting in the the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Three Broomsticks servies hearty British fare, including fish and chips, Cornish pasties and fresh Hogsmeade pumpkin juice. The restaurant itself is excellent, but the setting makes dining here an unforgettable experience. Full details: The Three Broomsticks guide
1. Mythos
Universal has not exactly been renowned for offering top-class dining experience over the years. Nevertheless, Mythos is consistently rated as one of the best in-park restaurants in the world. The service is excellent, the food is better than most other parks can offer, and the colossal, towering interior is a sight to behold. Full details: Mythos guide
