There have been few details revealed about the proposed upcoming Universal Texas theme park since it was first announced at the beginning of the year. We do know that the proposed park will focus on a younger demographic and IPs that appeal to them. According to Screamscape, it looks as if a couple of new trademark names which were filed on September 17, could be intended for the new Universal theme park in Texas.
So far, this is just speculation and Universal has not confirmed if and where these new trademark names will be used. They appear to be for potential attractions in a possible Dreamworks land and the names are “Dreamworks Dream Runner” and “Trolls Rainbow Racers”.
From the looks of these trademark names, “Trolls Rainbow Racers” could be a bumper car style ride or a small roller coaster and “Dreamworks Dream Runner” could be an attraction where you see a whole range of Dreamworks characters as you traverse a track. We would expect a combination of screens and physical sets to be included similar to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT.
So, it seems that Universal may well be planning a Dreamworks Land for their Universal Texas Theme Park which will include Trolls. There are certainly a lot of Dreamworks IPs available including How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar and it will be interesting to see which it will include and how Universal will bring this new park to life.
Back on January 11, Universal announced its plans to build a new theme park in Frisco, Texas. This new park which is currently in development will be unlike any other theme park Universal has opened in the US or anywhere else around the world.
Further details have now come to light regarding this project including a Universal Project Location map, Universal Site Plan, Resort Comparison and Roadway map. These are all available to view on the FriscoTexas.gov website. The Universal Project Location Map gives us a clear view of where this new park will sit in Frisco, Texas.
The Site Plan shows clearer details of the site itself including the proposed theme park area, proposed hotel area, parking and the planned berm of small trees surrounding the site. The entrances and exits are not yet finalized.
As a useful reference there is a Universal Resort comparison showing the difference in size of the proposed new resort area, actual theme park, parking spaces and hotel area with that of the Universal Orlando Resort.
The website also links to information regarding the Northern Corridor Roadway Projects which when complete, the City of Frisco’s $201-million investment will have provided 65 miles in roadway construction improvements. This will be imperative for the success of this new Universal theme park.
According to localprofile.com, during the last council meeting the hours for the new park were confirmed:
- 10:00AM – 6:00PM but this will vary throughout the year based on peak periods including weekends, holidays and seasonality.
- The park will never open before 9:00AM apart from for hotel guests and annual pass holders with the earliest suggested as 8:00AM.
- The closing time will not be later than 9:00PM apart from up to twenty dates for special events and holidays when the closing time will not be later than 10:00PM.
The new theme park which doesn’t yet have a name, will be vastly different from its current lineup of theme parks, and will be full of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, and other attractions that are specifically designed to appeal to families with small children. We are promised “immersive themed lands” with additional space which could be used for further expansions.
In the concept art provided, there is a boat ride visible, as well as some performance spaces, playgrounds, and water features. For more information, take a look at our recent article, Everything We Know About the Experimental New Universal Texas Theme Park.
