Permits Filed For TRON Lightcycle / Run Could Mean Completion Is Near

UPDATE (April 29) – Two permits have been filed for the Fabrication and Installation of Show Set Items for TRON Lightcycle / Run at the Magic Kingdom. With further testing being seen and the news of these two permits is appears that work is progressing very well on this highly anticipated new roller coaster and we are hoping this means that completion is near. We will keep you posted on further details as soon as they are announced.

UPDATE (April 17) – TRON Lightcycle / Run at the Magic Kingdom has been seen testing by a Disney fan who has posted this video to twitter. This is a very positive sign that good progress is being made and we hope an official opening date for this long awaited roller coaster will be announced soon.

March 3 – Walt Disney World has released a video which explains that the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run has now completed Phase 1 which is the set up of the basic system and is now moving into Phase 2 of its development.

Executive Ride Project Engineer, Jerold Kaplan takes us through the plan for Phase 2 which will begin with push pull testing. Push pull testing is where the train will be slowly dragged through the entire track ensuring everything fits and is in place and there are necessary clearances at all points.

The next step will be the commisioning of the high speed launch system which will be undertaken in small incremental steps until reaching the launch at full speed. This will be followed by using test weights and then several months later, when the attraction has been approved for ridership, will the first tests with team members begin.

Based on this timeline it still seems unlikely that we will see an official opening date for TRON Lightcycle / Run until the Summer at the absolute earliest. The exciting thing for guests visiting Magic Kingdom Park from now on is that you will be able to see the testing being undertaken from Tomorrowland as the coaster emerges from under the canopy.
